Fercken is a minister of the General Church of the New Jerusalem. Pendleton has been placed in charge of the Church’s European field in order to relieve the Bishop of some of his duties. Pendleton notes that Fercken has decided to take advantage of the Bishop’s offer to pay for Fercken to visit Bryn Athyn.
