Scope and Contents

This is a teaching collection for hands-on history.  United States and New Church history from colonization through the present.  Contains primary and secondary material in the form of letters and fragments, reproductions, facsimiles, newspapers, clippings, photographs, magazines, articles, books and other items regarding the history of the United States that can be used as teaching tools for Bryn Athyn College and the ANC Secondary Schools.

The collection contains records and material related to the Borough of Bryn Athyn (official government) .  Bryn Athyn began as a village in the last decade of the 19th century, eventually receiving  borough status in 1916.  This collection contains early records of the Village Association, and some government records deposited by the Borough (very few).

Scope and Contents The collection holds letters, sketches, architectural drawings, photographs and media articles regarding the design and construction of Bryn Athyn Cathedral.  There are files for many of the craftsmen and artists that worked on the project, as well as construction notes written by Raymond Pitcairn regarding the interior and structural design of hte building.  Several boxes of photographs document the various stages of construction. Abstract

The community of Bryn Athyn was formed in the late 19th century by members of the Philladelphia Swedenborgian Church (New Church).  This collection documents the early Village Association (before becoming a Burough) as well as the various community groups, old and new, that sprang up in the community.  This collection does not contain any official records of the Borough of Bryn Athyn.

The collection contains promotional  and informational literature about the Bryn Athyn Historic District, as well as information provided by the Historic Distric Council.  The collection includes photographs, posters, brochures and news articles.

Scope and Contents Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Robert J. Tilson's wife, Mrs. Tilson, in Camberwell, London, England. Pendleton received Mrs. Tilson’s letter of Oct. 16th with enclosed General Church membership application. He is sending her an official membership certificate and a blank application form to be filled out and returned for the Church’s records.
