Scope and Contents

This is a teaching collection for hands-on history.  United States and New Church history from colonization through the present.  Contains primary and secondary material in the form of letters and fragments, reproductions, facsimiles, newspapers, clippings, photographs, magazines, articles, books and other items regarding the history of the United States that can be used as teaching tools for Bryn Athyn College and the ANC Secondary Schools.

The collection contains records and material related to the Borough of Bryn Athyn (official government) .  Bryn Athyn began as a village in the last decade of the 19th century, eventually receiving  borough status in 1916.  This collection contains early records of the Village Association, and some government records deposited by the Borough (very few).

Scope and Contents The collection holds letters, sketches, architectural drawings, photographs and media articles regarding the design and construction of Bryn Athyn Cathedral.  There are files for many of the craftsmen and artists that worked on the project, as well as construction notes written by Raymond Pitcairn regarding the interior and structural design of hte building.  Several boxes of photographs document the various stages of construction. The Harold C. Cranch Family Papers contains primarily correspondence to and from friends and family.  There is a series of correspondence with the Academy of the New Church regarding their children as students that may warrant privacy concerns for children still living.  There are also several small folders on non-family topics.

Scope and Contents The Theodore Pitcairn Family Papers are housed in two locations.  The section of the collections that is housed at Swedenborg Library ranges in time from about 1910 to 2000.  The collection includes correspondence to and from Theodore as well as his wife and some of his children from various periods in his life.  There are even some examples of his schoolwork as a boy and a young man.  There is a small amount of material relating to business interests as well as some material relating to the...
