Robert Junge was born 06/15/1930 in Chicago, IL and raised in Glenview, IL with the exception of two years spent in Wasusau, WI. He determined to become a minister after a school address by the Rev. Norman Reuter. In 10th grade, he moved to Bryn Athyn, PA and attended the Academy of the New Church. After graduation, and while working at Glen Tonche, the summer home of Raymond Pitcairn (see Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn Papers in Glencairn Museum), he met and eventually married Raymond's daughter, Vera. Robert attended the Academy of the New Church College (now Bryn Athyn College of the New Church) and the Academy Theological school. Junge was ordained as a minister in the General Church of the New Jerusalem, 1955. The Junges moved to Denver, serving that New Church circle as well as the Western District of the United States (everything except Arizona and California) as visiting minister. The Western District included Seattle, Portland, Spokane, Walla Walla, Tulsa, Fort Worth, as well as isolated families from Baton Rouge to Vancouver and Iowa to El Paso, Corpus Christi and Brownsville, TX. After seven years, he returned to Bryn Athyn, PA and, for another seven years, served as the Secretary of the General Church of the New Jerusalem. During this time, he and Vera had seven children. Afterward, Junge served as acting principal of the Bryn Athyn Church elementary school, taught in the Academy high school and college and then, for twelve years, as Dean of the Theological School. During this time, ministers from Ghana, South Korea and Japan were trained, with the African ministry separated into its own organization.

Vera Pitcairn Junge passed away during this time, producing a change in his thoughts about affections and uses. Interested in serving people who lived outside the easy reach to Bryn Athyn Church services, he began doctrinal classes and then service, resulting in the eventual establishment of the Ivyland society of the General Church. Robert was called to a position as interim pastor of the Kempton, PA society which turned out to be four years long and then took over as visiting pastor to the Baltimore, MD society (which has since diminished to home worship services after the sale of their building). After several years serving the Central PA groups with Christopher Smith, Robert now serves a few committees in Kempton, PA, essentially retired.
