Identifier: RG.004.01

Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Pendleton has received Waelchli’s letter of Oct. 22nd and was glad to read that Waelchli has safely arrived and settled in Cincinnati. Pendleton does not expect Waelchli to be able to take on extensive missionary work when his time will be devoted to other things like conducting regular services. He explains his philosophy of evangelism, writing, “Personally I believe in peaceful and persistent labor within comparatively narrow limits. . . In a word, the phrase ‘conversation with a friend’ describes the most potent human method of spreading the sphere and influence of the Church.” In Bryn Athyn, they have just celebrated their second “Charter Day” with religious exercises in the morning, a football game in the afternoon, and a social in the evening. Names mentioned: Bishop W. F. Pendleton (William Frederic Pendleton), Geoffrey Childs, Merrell family, Schott family
