Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli, 1916-05-11
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli in Berlin, Canada. Handwritten note indicates this letter was read to the Consistory May 12th, 1916. Pendleton informs Waelchli that he has just written to Hugo (Odhner), advising him not to have his ordination at the upcoming Assembly if he does not feel ready. He wants Hugo left in freedom to make the decision for himself. Pendleton feels strongly that the reasons for ordaining a minister should relate to his internal state and not to the external circumstances. Pendleton admits that he may not be fully aware of the opposition against Waelchli in the Berlin Society, but he does not see why it would be necessary for Waelchli to resign if Hugo were ordained. Pendleton looks forward to seeing Waelchli at the Assembly. Names mentioned: Hugo (Odhner)
