Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli, 1916-05-02
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli in Berlin, Canada. Pendleton has received Waelchli’s letters of March 28th, April 27th, and April 28th. He did not answer Waelchli’s letter of March 28th sooner because Waelchli was away on a missionary trip and because he felt he could say little about the Berlin Society’s financial situation and the question of their school. He is now glad to learn that there is a prospect of continuing the school without eliminating any grades. If grades must be eliminated, Pendleton recommends cutting the top grades first as it is easier to build from the bottom than from the top. Pendleton finds the news concerning Mr. Evens agreeable and expected; He expects rumors of that nature to occasionally come up against their teachers and leaders. Pendleton was very interested in Waelchli’s account of his recent trip to Cincinnati, Middleport, Erie, and other places. He is pleased with the results so far and feels that if Waelchli keeps up this work for a few more years, the smaller societies he visits will be “put upon their feet.” He is particularly interested in Cincinnati as a place “affording a good field for our propaganda.” Pendleton informs Waelchli that they are counting on him to submit a paper for the upcoming Assembly.
