Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fred E. Waelchli in Rosthern, Canada. Pendleton has received Waelchli’s letters to him of August 4th and 14th and to the Bishop (W. F. Pendleton) of July 25th. He is pleased to hear that Waelchli’s work in the Canadian Northwest is going so well and that the Church has been gaining so many new followers. He comments, “Our opponents say that wherever we go we divide the Church. That is at times the appearance, but what they do not realize, or rather will not admit, is that such division has the effect of stimulating the life of the Church. Indeed it allows of a new beginning, and this is always the sign of life.” He shares the news that the American church members visiting Europe for the British Assembly left the continent for England just days before war broke out. He gives a list of church members who are stuck in London awaiting return passage to America. Pendleton himself has just retuned from visiting his wife who has been in a hospital in Pittsburgh all summer. Names mentioned: Mr. (John?) Pitcairn, Constance Pendleton, Miss Hogan, Miss Sophie Falk, Theodore Pitcairn, Mr. Iungerich, Donald Rose, Winfred Hyatt, Miss Doering
