Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Robert J. Tilson, 1929-01-02
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Robert J. Tilson in London, England. Pendleton apologies for the delay in responding to Tilson’s letter of Nov. 21st; A recent outbreak of influenza incapacitated much of the Church’s administration including George DeCharms, Hugo (Odhner), Theo (Pitcairn), Mrs. Rennels, several teachers, and Pendleton himself. Pendleton notes with interest the developments in Failsworth and comments, “The New Church cannot die, so let us be hopeful and forward looking, despite temporary failures or seeming disasters. Above all the New Church must have a right foundation, however small.” He enjoyed reading Miss Dawson’s letter and remarks that she is made of the “right New Church stuff.” Yesterday, Pendleton dedicated Harold Pitcairn’s new home, which he refers to as a “dream of beauty” on the inside. He speculates that Theo (Pitcairn) will build next. He sends belated season’s greetings to Mrs. Tilson. Names mentioned: George DeCharms, Hugo (Odhner), Theo (Theodore Pitcairn), Mrs. (Viola Wolcott) Rennels, Miss Dawson, Harold Pitcairn, Mrs. (Edith Gunton) Tilson
