Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Robert J. Tilson in London, England. Pendleton acknowledges receipt of Tilson’s last two letters. He approves of Tilson’s answer to Mrs. White and hopes that it will put an end to her “troubling.” Bishop DeCharms has been assisting Pendleton in organizing the upcoming General Assembly in London; Pendleton passed Tilson’s requests regarding music along to DeCharms as he is arranging the services. Referring to the Conference “boycott” Pendleton writes, “Always there are some who come to us with offers of friendship and cooperation; but we invariably find that they do not represent the inner governing circle. Experience how for many years has repeatedly proven that if we entertain, and especially if we count on these offers, we must later take an embarrassing back step.” Pendleton discusses the recent shifts in episcopal assignments; Alan Gill will go to Kitchener, Mr. Gyllenhaal will go to Toronto, and Pendleton has recommended Victor Gladish for Colchester. In Bryn Athyn, they are constructing a new Assembly Hall in anticipation of the 1930 assembly. Names mentioned: Mrs. White (Mrs. John A. White?), Bishop (George) DeCharms, Rev. Alan Gill, Mr. (Fred) Gyllenhaal, Victor Gladish
