Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Robert J. Tilson, 1927-12-19
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Robert J. Tilson in London, England. Mr. DeCharms has written to Tilson regarding arrangements for the 1928 London General Assembly, however they cannot take any further steps until they know for sure that they will be able to use the hall (Victora Hall?) whenever desired during the Assembly period. Pendleton received Tilson’s letter of November 30th with an enclosed letter from Mr. Sexton. Pendleton comments on Sexton’s letter, “He is not yet clear on the point that the General Church is earnest in gathering only those Societies to itself which will spiritually strengthen the General body. Naturally the financial issues loom large in his mind, but we can not be dominated by such considerations.” Sexton’s traveling expenses will be covered by the General Church if he is able to attend the London Assembly; Pendleton hopes Sexton will attend as he would like to meet him in person. In America, Pauline Starkey Wells recently passed away. Pendleton comments that her death “separates us by another step from the great days of our beginning.” Names mentioned: Mr. (George?) DeCharms, Mr. Sexton (George Alexander Sexton?), Pauline Starkey Wells
