Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Robert J. Tilson in London, England. Pendleton has received Tilson’s letter of Jan. 24th with enclosed report. Pendleton is pleased Tilson was able to visit Colchester to conduct evening services several times during Mr. Gyllenhaal’s absence. In Bryn Athyn, the ministers’ meetings have successfully concluded. Pendleton comments on the meetings, “Perhaps greater intensity was developed than for years, a deep affectional strain accomplished by sustained elevation of thought beyond the ordinary.” Pendleton enjoyed having Mr. Gyllenhaal in Bryn Athyn for the meetings. He has now gone to visit Toronto, Chicago, and Pittsburgh, but will return to Bryn Athyn to preach on Sunday before setting sail for England. Elmo Acton will be ordained in June and will join Theo Pitcairn in Durban. George DeCharms was forced to miss the meetings due to illness; He has been sick since November and is in Florida recuperating. Next summer, Pendleton will travel to Rio de Janeiro to visit the New Church people there and ordain Messers Leonardos, Lima, and Braga, whom he has previously authorized to do ministerial work. Pendleton is enclosing for Tilson a Statement of the Order and Organization of the General Church which he has recently issued. Names mentioned: Mr. (Fred) Gyllenhaal, Elmo Acton, Mr. (Theodore Pitcairn), George DeCharms, Mr. (Henry) Leonardos, Mr. (Joao de Mendonca) Lima, Prof. (Carlos Frederico de Oliveira) Braga, Mr. (Albert) Bjorck
