Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Robert J. Tilson in London, England. Pendleton was pleased to learn from Tilson’s letter of Dec. 10th that his health and vitality are improving. Pendleton has not heard from Mr. Gyllenhaal, or anyone aside from Tilson, regarding Gyllenhaal’s proposal to combine the Burton Road and Peckham Rye societies. Pendleton regards this idea favorably, although there may be some difficulty involved as Burton Road is not a General Church society. Pendleton writes, “My only hesitation arises from the fear of premature action and the evils thereof. There will, for instance, be no real gain for the General Church if we split Peckham Rye to add to Burton Road, or vise versa.” Pendleton asks Tilson to suggest to Gyllenhaal that he write to the Bishop regarding this matter. In Bryn Athyn, the Academy schools are struggling due to the absence of Mr. Acton, Mr. Brown, and Miss Grant. Mr. Acton left for a summer trip abroad but has now been so delayed that they do not expect his return until sometime in February. Names mentioned: Mr. (Fred) Gyllenhaal, Mr. (David) Denny, Mr. (Frank Hodson?) Rose, Mr. (Alfred?) Acton, Mr. (Reginold) Brown, Miss (Alice) Grant
