Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Robert J. Tilson, 1920-02-24
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Robert J. Tilson in London, England. Pendleton invites Tilson and Mr. Ottley to Bryn Athyn for an International Church Council in June. Pendleton explains the impetus behind this international Council; He writes, “I am profoundly convinced that the need of the Academy movement is as great now as it has ever been, and that the success of this movement throughout the world will largely depend upon the leaders of it seeing eye to eye, both with regard to the existence of that need and the means of its fulfillment. To this end nothing would prove more beneficial than our coming together and discussing and agreeing upon the great fundamentals for which we stand, and in so doing dedicating our lives anew to the undertaking.” Pendleton has approval for this idea from both the Consistory and the Executive Committee, and it has been agreed that the Church will defray ministers’ travelling costs. Pendleton encourages Tilson to pack several sermons and an address for the Council. In other news, Pendleton hears that the people of Peckham Rye and Colchester are favorably considering calling Mr. Gyllenhaal as Pastor, but Pendleton has yet to hear from Gyllenhaal himself on the matter. Names mentioned: Mr. (Glendower C.) Ottley, Mr. (Frederick) Gyllenhaal
