Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Robert J. Tilson in Camberwell, London, England. Pendleton is glad that Tilson is recovering well following his operation; He hears Tilson may return to preaching soon. Pendleton presumes that Mr. Gyllenhaal and Mr. Pitcairn are now with Tilson in England, though he has not actually heard from them. Pendleton instructed Gyllenhaal to familiarize himself with both the Peckham Rye and Colchester congregations and report back to him regarding their general state and needs. Back in Bryn Athyn, Pendleton is concerned over the Church’s finances and over the uncertainties surrounding the Durban Society. Currently, he is also working on developing an intermediary body between the Ministers’ Council and the Executive Committee. Pendleton explains, “we now . . . lack any kind of intermediate, so that we are in a condition when the one hand knows not what the other is doing.” Names mentioned: Mrs. (R. J.) Tilson, Mr. (Frederick) Gyllenhaal, Mr. (Theodore?) Pitcairn, Bishop (William Frederic) Pendleton
