Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Homer Synnestvedt in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Jennie Gaskill is currently filling Sigrid Odhner’s teaching position in Bryn Athyn while Odhner is on a leave of absence in Sweden. Odhner will return in the fall, and so there is no reason from the Elementary school’s perspective why Gaskill should not accept Synnestvedt’s offer of a teaching position in Pittsburgh. However, Gaskill would prefer to stay in Bryn Athyn where her home and friends are. Pendleton believes she is hoping the Elementary school will decide to increase the size of its teaching force and open a new position for her. Pendleton writes, “Personally I am not disposed to grab everything for Bryn Athyn, and feel that we should divide our forces in a way that all our schools may have the best possible service.” For this reason, Pendleton hopes Gaskill will accept Pittsburgh’s offer. Pendleton hears Dora Brown is going to Toronto, and that the school there will be reduced to a one-teacher program. Pendleton thinks this is a good idea for financial reasons and because he thinks Brown will be a good teacher. Names mentioned: Jennie Gaskill, Sigrid Odhner, Dora Brown
