Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Homer Synnestvedt, 1926-03-16
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Homer Synnestvedt in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Pendleton has received Synnestvedt’s letter of March 11th regarding New Church education in the Pittsburgh society. He writes, “We here are with you heart and soul for New Church education. It seems strange to have it challenged in our own body. Well, anything may happen if you live long enough to see it.” Pendleton asks if Synnestvedt has any news about Rev. Thomas King; Pendleton heard he was ill and had been admitted to the hospital. Pendleton writes about King, “Once I knew him well, and if anywhere near, I should like to call on him for the sake of old days. I sincerely admired his ability as a preacher. He was very effective with outsiders and beginners. He developed what might be called ‘the human touch,’ to a high degree.” Pendleton remembers that Grace (Lindsay?) received some of her education in Bryn Athyn and was always sensitive to anything criticizing Convention. Pendleton hears that Synnestvedt has offered Miss Gaskill a teaching position in Pittsburgh. Gaskill is currently filling Cyriel Odhner’s position in Bryn Athyn while Odhner is away in Sweden. Pendleton hopes to have Odhner back next year but acknowledges that this kind of thing is never certain. Names mentioned: Grace (Lindsay?), Rev. Thomas King, (Jennie) Gaskill, Cyriel (Odhner)
