Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Homer Synnestvedt, 1923-10-27
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Homer Synnestvedt in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Pendleton has received Synnestvedt’s letter of the 25th. He thanks Synnestvedt for returning his handkerchief. He writes, “I remember intending to pick it up but you know what happens to good intentions,- or do you? The common saying indicates one fate and the Writings seem to point to another.” With reference to the difficulties Synnestvedt has been facing with the Pittsburgh society, Pendleton advises Synnestvedt to “take the leading spirit in opposition into your confidence and endeavor to lead him to see wherein he may work for the benefit of the Church, instead of against it, etc.” Pendleton warns that although this approach may not succeed, as ministers, they must “cultivate an endless patience.” Pendleton regrets that he was unable to be present for Jacob Schoenberger’s golden wedding.
