Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Homer Synnestvedt, 1923-03-15
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Homer Synnestvedt in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Pendleton discusses the success of the recent joint meetings between the ministers and the faculty in Bryn Athyn. He writes, “The comment was all favorable. The feeling seemed to be that we had made a real step in advance, but whether the broad significance of the move was realized by the majority I cannot say. Certainly I enjoyed the afternoon meetings more than formerly. Perhaps because of the stimulus of additional minds, especially the ladies. I think all agree that we should “do it again,” which is the important thing. While it appeared that in those meetings the clerical overshadowed the lay side, we must not forget to count the ladies on the lay side. They might indeed object to this, for some of them are strongly theologically inclined.” Pendleton also remarks that Bryn Athyn has recently been shocked by the death of Gerald Glenn. He writes, “The tragedy of it was in a sense accentuated by the fact that he was not very well equipped for life in this world.” Pendleton himself is recovering from a bout of influenza which he came down with after the local assembly meetings in February. Names mentioned: Gerald (Starkey Glenn), S.S. (Stuart Synnestvedt? Sylvia Synnestvedt?)
