Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Homer Synnestvedt , 1914-10-21
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Homer Synnestvedt in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Pendleton apologizes for not answering Synnestvedt’s letter sooner. Pendleton understands Synnestvedt’s desire for reorganization and thinks his new plan will come with definite advantages, though it may prove more cumbersome than the previous arrangement. Pendleton then gives an update on his recent trip to the Arbutus circle. He writes, “I went there after consulting with the members of the Consistory here, and as a result of a cry from Arbutus that the colony at that place was “on the rocks” and in danger of breaking up. On going there I found that this was indeed the case. A strong party was ready to quit, they holding that Mr. Keep was an innocent man, and was being done to death by the opposing party, in the interest of another man whom they were supposed to want.” Pendleton met with those who were upset and heard their complaints. He informed them that they were entirely wrong regarding the main issue, though they had some good points. They took him at his word, and a general meeting was called for the next day. The meeting was peaceable, and they agreed to wait for the Bishop before making any definite changes. Names mentioned: Freda (Pendleton), Mr. Keep
