Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Homer Synnestvedt , 1914-09-15
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Homer Synnestvedt in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. The Bishop will be in Glenview on Sunday the 11th and in Chicago on Sunday the 18th for the Chicago District Assembly, and he would like to know whether Synnestvedt would like to host a Pittsburgh Assembly during the week of Sunday the 25th. Pendleton then gives an update about life in Bryn Athyn during the War. He writes, “For the past few days people have been gathering to Bryn Athyn from the many quarters of their summer sojourn. It has been particularly pleasant to note the arrivals of our friends who have been stranded on European shores, and to feel that they are safe from German, or other shells. All, I believe, are now here save Mr. Pitcairn, who declares that he will “stick to his post,” that is, stay in London until he can get word of the Deltenres; and of his factory in Belgium, which, according to reports, has been destroyed. The last heard from the Deltenres is that they have hung the American flag over the Mission in Brussells. Let us hope that it will be effective.” Names mentioned: Mr. (John) Pitcairn, the Deltenres, Mrs. (Theodora Bellinger) Synnestvedt
