Letter from N.D. Pendleton's secretary to Rev. Gilbert Haven Smith, 1923-06-04
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton's secretary, Freda Pendleton, to Rev. Gilbert Haven Smith in Glenview, IL, USA. F. Pendleton has received Smith’s letter to the Bishop of May 30th regarding the upcoming General Assembly in Glenview. She is replying to the letter as the Bishop has been ill for two weeks and is recuperating at the seashore. She writes, “I take the liberty of suggesting that you do not count on him [the Bishop] for an arranged speech at the banquet but leave it to the inspiration of the moment, and so leave him free to speak or not according to how he feels, after delivering his address in the morning of the same day . . . I have no doubt but that he will feel moved to speak on the occasion, but do not count on him.” F. Pendleton is sure that the Bishop’s time away will “fix him up just right for the Assembly, and that he will be able to do all that he is called upon to do.”
