Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gilbert Haven Smith in Glenview, IL, USA. Pendleton has received Smith’s letter of April 28th about the upcoming General Assembly in Glenview. He confirms that Smith is free to arrange the program for the Assembly banquet, however, there will be no public drinking of intoxicants as per the 18th amendment of the US constitution. There will be short morning services with Holy Supper administered as a separate service in the afternoon. Alex Lindsay of Pittsburgh will preside over the Men’s Meetings; Pendleton thought it prudent to give Pittsburgh charge of part of the Assembly. In answer to Smith’s question regarding the invitation of Convention members, Pendleton writes, “We are debarred from giving members of the Convention formal invitation to the Assembly, this has been our policy for years, necessitated by the Brockton resolutions. I have always held that our meetings are public, but we issue no special invitations.” Names mentioned: Geoffrey Childs, Alex Lindsay, Brockton
