Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gilbert Haven Smith, 1923-03-20
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gilbert Haven Smith i Glenview, IL, USA. Pendleton enjoyed reading Smith’s letter of March 22nd. He writes, “Your experience with the Illinois Association reminded me of the time when I trailed around a bit with that body as represented by Messers. Mercer, King, Saul, Landenberger etc. We used to adjourn to a certain Italian restaurant on State Street (Restaurant Roma) for a dollar table d’hote, wine included. I remember Landenberger,- he was a young man then,- used to kindly admit all my arguments concerning the Writings as the Word, but at the end would say, to my despair, ‘However, the Writings are not the Word.’” Pendleton has heard from Fred Gyllenhaal that Mr. Bjorck has broken his thigh and is in the hospital. He hopes for a complete and speedy recovery for Bjorck. Names mentioned: Fred Gyllenhaal, (Albert) Bjorck, Mr. Mercer, Mr. King, Mr. Saul, Mr. Landenberger
