Letter from N.D. Pendleton's secretary to Rev. Gilbert Haven Smith, 1918-09-21
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton's secretary, Freda Pendleton, to Rev. Gilbert Haven Smith in Glenview, IL, USA. The Bishop has asked F. Pendleton to acknowledge Smith’s letters of Sept. 2nd, 5th, and 10th, and to inform him that the program for the upcoming District Assembly is satisfactory. The Bishop is currently preparing an address but cannot yet say exactly what it will be about. Referring to the issue of Dr. de Courcy, F. Pendleton writes, “the Bishop had a talk with Mr. Alden about the matter, and thinks that anything in the nature of propaganda in the Army would be out of place.” The Bishop is looking forward to meeting with the people of Chicago and Glenview, and he would have written to Smith himself if he were not “in the midst of the confusion and press of work” in connection with the beginning of the school year. Names mentioned: Dr. de Courcy, Mr. Alden
