Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gilbert Haven Smith, 1918-03-27
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gilbert Haven Smith in Chicago, IL, USA. Pendleton has received Smith’s letter of March 11th. Pendleton agrees that the Forrest family property would be an ideal place for the Sharon Church society to worship, if they can make it work. He writes, “With the right spirit in Sharon Church the things you propose are feasible. By a right spirit in this connection, I mean the absence of discord, with all working together as one man.” He continues, “There is nothing like getting together with a little enthusiasm for the doing of some progressive work. When a Society has nothing to do but provide for its current expenses, internal troubles are likely to manifest themselves.” Pendleton will promote Smith’s initiative in Bryn Athyn to enlist “interest and sympathy.” Pendleton also notes with pleasure that Mr. Curtis has proposed to his children baptized in the Church. In Bryn Athyn, Mr. Carl Theophilus Odhner has recently passed away; Pendleton writes, “We greatly miss our old friend Odhner. May his spirit of downright loyalty always abide with us.” Names mentioned: the Forrest family, Mr. (W. Espy?) Curtis, (Carl Theophilus) Odhner
