Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gilbert Haven Smith, 1916-09-07
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gilbert Haven Smith in Glenview, IL, USA. Pendleton acknowledges Smith’s letter of Sept. 5th. He will be glad to deliver a sermon on the second Sunday of his upcoming trip to Glenview and Chicago, and he would be happy to have Mr. Headsten’s congregation join Sharon Church for the occasion. He notes an air of optimism in Smith’s letter, and he wishes Smith luck in his plans to improve the Sharon Church Society. In Bryn Athyn, they have decided to postpone opening the schools until Oct. 2nd. This is in order to comply with the mandate of the PA State Board of Health that children under 16 may not attend school until Oct. 2nd due to an outbreak of Infantile Paralysis. Pendleton now wishes the dedication was a week or so later, but the arrangements have already been made. Names mentioned: Mr. (John) Headsten
