Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gilbert Haven Smith, 1914-04-07
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Gilbert Haven Smith in Chicago, IL, USA. Pendleton informs Smith that the Bishop has found it necessary to turn much of his episcopal correspondence over to him (Pendleton). In response to Smith’s statement that he is struggling financially, Pendleton writes, “It is to be regretted that the difficulty of which you complain is quite general, especially in our smaller societies and circles; and for the most part we can only hope that they may all grow in strength, spiritual and financial, and so be able to give their ministers the support which they should have.” Pendleton explains that the Extension Committee is doing everything it can to help the smaller societies become self-sustaining, though he understands that the needs out measure the funds. Pendleton advises Smith to persevere until things improve.
