Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Joseph E. Rosenquist in Gothenburg, Sweden. Pendleton is glad to hear that Rosenquist has found a place for his son Friedel with the Bromberg family; Pendleton hopes to hear soon of Friedel’s safe arrival in America. Pendleton approves of Rosenquist’s initiative in renting a room for public worship in a good neighborhood of Gothenburg, and he writes that Rosenquist should not expect to draw a “full house” right away. He continues, “However, continuity of effort will surely produce results in time, and this I believe will come to you, to anyone in almost any place, if the work be consistently and intelligently maintained.” Pendleton notifies Rosenquist that Mr. Pitcairn will be visiting Sweden over the summer; He hopes Rosenquist can arrange for Pitcairn visit Gothenburg. The ministers’ meetings have recently concluded in Bryn Athyn. During the meetings, Rosenquist’s report raised questions over his group’s involvement with the Conference. Pendleton writes, “. . .there was a statement in your report concerning your Circle partaking of the Holy Supper at the time when Mr. Manby came to Gothenburg to visit the other Society . . . Some thought the sentence indicated that you joined in that celebration with the members of the old Circle, but as there was nothing else in the report to suggest such a move on your part, I held that the impression given was an error.” Names mentioned: Friedel (Rosenquist), Mr. (Christian Nikolaus?) Bromberg, Mr. (John?) Pitcairn, Mr. (Carl Johan Nilsson) Manby
