Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Joseph E. Rosenquist , 1914-02-12
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Joseph E. Rosenquist in Gothenburg, Sweden. Rosenquist’s letter with news of the Gothenburg society was forwarded to Pendleton in Bryn Athyn, where he (Pendleton) and his family have recently relocated to assist the Bishop. Pendleton has been given charge of the Bishop’s correspondence and oversight of the European societies, so Rosenquist may consider this letter the Bishop’s reply. Referring to Rosenquist’s account of his brief conversion to the Conference Church in Gothenburg and his subsequent reconversion to the General Church, Pendleton writes, “. . .the story of your own changes of state is frankly told, just as you recounted it to me in Gothenburg last summer. I am very glad that you have passed through that trying period of temptations, and I feel sure that you will be all the stronger for the experience.” Pendleton was sorry to learn of the defection of Mr. Lunden, but he urges Rosenquist not to become discouraged. The Extension Committee has decided to grant Rosenquist’s request for financial aid; He will receive a communication from Mr. Alden shortly. Rosenquist is considering sending his son, Friedel, to live in America, and he would like to know if Pendleton can do anything to support him. Pendleton himself is staying at the Bryn Athyn Inn with his family as they have been unable to find housing, and consequently, is not in a position to assist Friedel. He recommends Friedel settle in one of the Church societies, in which case, Pendleton will write to his friends there and ask for their help. Names mentioned: Mr. (Carl Theophilus?) Odhner, Mr. (George Edward?) Lunden, Mr. (William Hyde) Alden, Friedel (Rosenquist), Mr. (Christian Nikolaus?) Bromberg, Mrs. (Beatrice Walton Childs) Pendleton
