Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Theodore Pitcairn, 1918-08-03
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Theodore Pitcairn. In response to Pitcairn’s last letter in which he considers joining the war effort, Pendleton writes, “I cannot contemplate with satisfaction your enlisting in the Army, and would advise against it. The most urgent as well as the greatest need is in the Church work. Basutoland is far away and the permanency of our undertaking there is as yet uncertain. Besides, it appears at present that Providence has placed difficulties in the way of your going. These should not be entirely disregarded.” Pendleton suggests that Pitcairn come back to Bryn Athyn as a religion instructor for the Academy next year instead.
