Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton. Dated July 11th, no year given. Pendleton discusses arrangements for the upcoming district Assembly in November, including the schedule, topics to be considered, a possible men’s meeting, and the banquet. Pendleton writes that the discussion they had in Berlin reinspired his interest in Swedenborgian science; He has just finished reading the Principia and is now debating whether to read it again or begin one of the related scientific works. His goal is “to put [himself] in a position to understand and appreciate the new movement in the Church.” Upon his arrival home, Pendleton found the society discussing his successor as Pastor, and he remarks that he hopes they won’t replace him prematurely.
