Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton, 1913-08-17
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton. Hotell Excelsior letterhead. Continuing on their European tour, Pendleton and his wife have arrived in Stockholm. Their visit began with an informal meeting of the Church circle; Pendleton comments, “The occasion was altogether delightful- was like an old Academy meeting.” He concludes that Academy thought is strong in Sweden, and he advises that the “Church will make no mistake in giving hearty support to the work that is now going forward.” Pendleton has especially been impressed with Alfred Stroh, the de facto leader of the Swedish circle. Pendleton presided over the formal meetings and administered Holy Supper with the assistance of Mr. Bronniche and Mr. Rosenquist. Referring to this Holy Supper service, Pendleton writes, “The one spoke Danish, the other Swedish, and I of course English. However strange this may have seemed, yet all testified to the fact that the service was most impressive.” Pendleton will preach tonight and attend a meeting of the Providentia Association. Tomorrow evening, Pendleton, Beatrice, and Alfred Stroh will depart for the Hague where they might meet Mr. Pitcairn. Names mentioned: Alfred (Stroh), (Soren Christian) Bronniche, (Joseph Elias) Rosenquist, Mr. (John) Pitcairn, Ora Pendleton
