Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton, 1912-03-05
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton. Pendleton read W.F.P.’s last letter aloud at the last Committee meeting. The members were asked whether they approved of Pendleton’s resignation from his work with the Erie Circle and what they thought of his proposed trip South. The general consensus was that they did not mind Pendleton leaving for special services on occasion, but they were unhappy with him leaving regularly for Erie because of the effect of his absence on the society. Pendleton remains unsure whether he should take the trip South after Easter as planned. W.F.P. has also referenced Pendleton going to England in the summer, but Pendleton requests that W.F.P. find someone else to go. Pendleton writes, “I have not been well of late and my feeling is that I have all that I am equal to here.” Pendleton ends the letter with updates on the Pittsburgh Society: the Lindsay children have left the Church school, Mrs. Macbeth is in the hospital after a stroke, and the Society has been enjoying evening readings of Miss Beekman’s work. Names mentioned: Mr. (Jacob) Schoenberger, Ora (Pendleton), Lindsay children, Mrs. Macbeth, (Lilian Grace) Beekman
