Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton, 1911-06-05
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton. Pendleton discusses a recent controversial article written by Mr. Odhner attacking the late Dr. Burnham’s book. Pendleton states, “When I first read Mr. Odhner’s article my feeling was that he has pilloried the dead in order to punish the living.” He has written a response which he would like to read before the ministers in Bryn Athyn. He did not attempt to defend Dr. Burnham’s views because he does not have access to Dr. Burnham’s book; He read the book many years ago, but it is not available today in any library. He hopes W.F.P. will reserve judgement on his response until he has read it. The Pittsburgh Philosophy Club has decided to send Pendleton and his wife to Cambridge Springs, PA for rest and relaxation before the meetings in Bryn Athyn. Pendleton hopes Beatrice will accompany him to Bryn Athyn, but he is presently doubtful of the prospect. Names mentioned: Mr. Odhner, Mr. Gladish, Dr. (Nathan Clark) Burnham, Beatrice (Walton Childs Pendleton)
