Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton, 1908-07-24
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton. Pendleton understands from W.F.P.’s last letter, and from other Bryn Athyn Council members, that it has been decided to appeal the Orphan Court’s ruling on the Kramph Will case. Pendleton comments, “While there are several prudential consideration which might suggest our nesting in the hope of preserving our charter rights undisturbed, yet if there is any hope on rational grounds, it would be certainly be a weakness to back down at this stage. . . It appears that you have outlined the essential point of our contention in your statement that whatever the external appearance may be yet it is a fact that the spirit of the doctrines and the spirit of the law are in agreement.” Pendleton is hopeful that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court will modify the Orphan Court’s decision in the Church’s favor. Names mentioned: (Frederick J.) Kramph
