Scope and Contents

Handwritten letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton. Pendleton requests W.F.P. notify him when the hymns have been published and are ready for delivery; He anticipates the introduction of the hymns to the Pittsburgh society “will not please all” and he is “not disposed to stir in the matter” until they are “ready for action.” Pendleton reports that the Pittsburgh society school has now opened for the year, and he has been encouraged by Miss Esther so far. Pendleton is sorry to hear that Venita’s health has prevented her from taking her university course; The rumor is that a doctor has ordered her to go south for two years. In Pittsburgh, they have decided to hold monthly suppers this year. They may go back to holding weekly suppers when they have a new church building. Mrs. Schott tells Pendleton that W.F.P.’s outing in the mountains has been beneficial. Pendleton himself has been spending time recently reading histories of Israel and early Christianity; So far, he has read Kent and Reuan (?). Names mentioned: Miss Alice (Grant?), Miss Esther (Boggess), Venita (Pendleton), Mrs. (Mary Dover) Schott, Kent, Reuan (?)
