Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton, 1903-08-04
Scope and Contents
Handwritten letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton. Pendleton writes that W.F.P.’s letter recommending Miss Tafel and Miss Sommerville for the teaching position in Pittsburgh arrived too late. Pendleton was called to Middleport last week to officiate the funeral of Mrs. Kenter. Before he left, Dr. Boggess mentioned that Miss Esther may not return to school in Bryn Athyn. Pendleton extended a job offer to Miss Ester which she has now accepted. Pendleton knows W.F.P. would have preferred that Miss Ester complete her education first, but Pendleton felt this was the only way to save the school. Pendleton hopes W.F.P.’s time away in the mountains will be beneficial; He left Bryn Athyn concerned for W.F.P.’s health after seeing the hot room where he works during the summer. Names mentioned: Miss (Clara?) Tafel, Miss Sommerville (Miss Mary Summerville/Sommerville?), Mrs. Kenter, Dr. (William Benjamin) Boggess, Miss Esther (Boggess)
