Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton, 1903-05-28
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Bishop William F. Pendleton. Venita (Pendleton) has informed Pendleton that she may not return to teach in the Pittsburgh Society school next year as she would like to study at the College in Bryn Athyn. Pendleton believes she could benefit from study, but he worries she would be deciding to leave due to a complaint leveled against her by the Council. When Pendleton informed Venita of this complaint, her reaction was more intense than Pendleton felt was necessary; He writes, “Venita seemed to brood over the matter in such a way as to be almost inconceivable to me. Every time we met it was the burden of our conversation. Repeatedly I advised her to quit thinking about it. She said that I was indifferent. I told her that I wanted to treat her as I would wish any one to treat my daughter under like circumstances.” Pendleton does not know who will take over the school if Venita leaves. Pendleton will suggest that Venita wait to make her decision until after the school term is over. Pendleton sends his love to his daughter Ora, who is in Bryn Athyn with W.F.P., and he writes that he and Beatrice are looking forward to having Luelle with them in Pittsburgh. Names mentioned: Venita (Pendleton), Beatrice (Walton Childs Pendleton), Orah (Ora Pendleton), Luelle (Pendleton)
