Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Glendower C. Ottley, 1920-02-24
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Glendower C. Ottley in London, England. Pendleton informs Ottley that there will be an International Church Council in Bryn Athyn next June. He had the idea for this council while in South Africa overseeing the reception of the Durban Society into the General Church, and the idea was reinforced when Ottley and Rev. Tilson joined the General Church. Writing about this Council, Pendleton comments, “You will agree with me, I am sure, that the need of the Academy movement was never greater and that it is vital that we should all see as with a common mind.” The Church has agreed to defray the traveling costs of the European ministers for the Council, and Pendleton hopes that Ottley will be able to attend. He would like Ottley to preach in the new Cathedral and deliver an address before the Council. Pendleton has received a letter from Theodore Pitcairn with an account of his trip to Brussels, Paris, and Lausanne. Pendleton has yet to hear from Mr. Gyllenhaal, so he does not yet know if Gyllenhaal will be called to serve as pastor of Peckham Rye and Colchester. Names mentioned: Mr. (Robert J.) Tilson, Rev. Theodore Pitcairn, Mr. (Fred) Gyllenhaal
