Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Hugo Odhner, 1916-05-11
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Hugo Odhner in Berlin (Kitchener), ON, Canada. Pendleton has received Odhner’s letter of May 8th. Pendleton addresses Odhner’s concerns about ordination into the pastoral degree of the priesthood. As Pendleton considers it orderly to be ordained into the pastoral degree without necessarily becoming the pastor of a society, he argues that there is no reason why Odhner should not be ordained into the second degree and continue to assist Mr. Waelchli as assistant pastor of the Berlin Society. Yet due to Odhner’s hesitations, Pendleton concludes, “From a reconsideration of the whole matter, I am disposed to think that it would be a mistake for us to go forward with your ordination at this time. But I will explain that I am primarily influenced by your own feeling of unpreparedness.” Names mentioned: Mr. (Fred Edwin) Waelchli
