Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Hugo Odhner, 1916-05-02
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Hugo Odhner in Berlin (Kitchener), ON, Canada. Pendleton has received Odhner’s letter of April 28th. Pendleton discusses Odhner’s potential ordination into the second degree of the Priesthood. Pendleton understands the circumstances which cause Odhner to be hesitant, but he advises that decisions regarding ordination should be subject only to considerations pertaining to the priesthood itself. Pendleton states that acceptance of the Bishop’s “call and selection” should be decided by each individual priest on the basis of their state of preparation. While Pendleton prefers that ministers serve the Church for three years before receiving ordination into the second degree, he now finds it necessary to ordain Mr. David and Mr. DeCharms. Seeing as this is the case, he would also like to extend the same offer of ordination to Odhner. Each of these ministers will have served two years by the time of their proposed ordinations during the 1916 Assembly, and the Consistory has agreed with Pendleton’s proposal. Names mentioned: Mr. (Llewellyn) David, George DeCharms
