Scope and Contents

Handwritten letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Carl Theophilus Odhner. Pendleton discusses the changed appearance of the Atlantic Garden restaurant, which he and Odhner have not visited together in twenty years. It used to be “like an open court, with a large palm (?) and fountain in its center. . . Now it is nothing more than an ordinary dining room- entirely enclosed- having no distinguishing feature.” When Pendleton received Odhner’s request, he spoke to Walter Falkner, who is acquainted with the present owner of the Atlantic Garden. Pendleton asked the owner if it was possible to obtain a photograph of the restaurant before it was remodeled, but he has not heard back yet. Pendleton’s wife, Beatrice, has an old photograph of “Oak Nest” (home of Walter and Edith Childs) as it was in its early days. Pendleton thinks Mr. Childs may have one as well. Pendleton has received the statistical report of the General Church, and he comments that the Committees seem to have done a fine job. Pendleton writes that he would like to attend the Pittsburgh Founders’ Day celebration, but he has already arranged a trip to the Toronto and Erie Societies in January. Names mentioned: Walter Faulkner, Beatrice (Walton Childs Pendleton), Mr. (Walter?) Childs
