Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Richard Morse, 1917-09-11
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Richard Morse in Sydney, Australia. Pendleton acknowledges Morse’s letter of July 25th with enclosed 1917 annual report and a membership application for Miss Evelyn White. Pendleton is quite pleased that Morse was able to reconcile with Mr. Morgan, thereby reuniting their two New Church congregations. Pendleton reports that the Church in Bryn Athyn is suffering due to a large number of absences caused by nearly all of the young men enlisting in the army. Commenting on the War, Pendleton writes, “America is very much in earnest in this war and will, if it lasts long enough, send a large army to the front. There is now much talk of peace, coming from Germany . . . I am looking forward to a decided development of the New Church as an effect of the after-the-war conditions, which will, I think, result in greater freedom in the world, both spiritual and natural.” Names mentioned: Miss Evelyn White, Mr. (Charles H.) Morgan, Mr. (Frederick William) Heldon
