Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Richard Morse, 1916-09-08
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Richard Morse in Syndey, Australia. Pendleton has received Morse’s letter of August 1st. Regarding a member of Morse’s society, William White, age 19, Pendleton writes that he is probably spiritually mature enough to become a member of the Church as he has already partaken in Holy Supper. Pendleton advises, “it is well to be assured that our young people are of age, in state at least, before partaking of the Holy Communion and formerly joining the Church; but where this is the case, that is, when they are adult in state, the mere matter of the number of years is not of great moment.” Pendleton quotes extensively from a letter which he has recently received from Mr. Morgan. From this communication, it appears that Morgan and his followers are open to reconciling with Mr. Morse and to joining the General Church. Pendleton hopes this reconciliation will be successful as he believes that all who subscribe to the Divine Authority of the Writings should be united. Names mentioned: William W. White, Mr. (Charles H.) Morgan, Mr. (Frederick William) Heldon (formerly Helberg)
