Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Richard Morse in Sydney, Australia. Morse’s letter to the Bishop of May 16th has arrived. Pendleton informs Morse that the authorization sent to him by the Bishop conveys with it all the powers of the second degree of the General Church priesthood, including the right to wear the blue stole. Pendleton reports that they were glad to learn of Mr. Gyllenhaal’s arrival in Australia and to read some of his impressions of Sydney. The Bishop noted Morse’s description of the marble baptismal font and he was pleased that Morse has taken an interest in the work being done for the Church by Miss Beekman. Pendleton describes the special 19th of June ceremony which recently took place in Bryn Athyn: “On the Nineteenth of June the cornerstone of the new church building was laid by the Bishop. It was a most impressive ceremony, and made a profound impression on all of us. . . There were several new features of interest, especially the procession of the whole congregation from the Chapel to the hill where the church is building, led by the Bishop in his robes. As the great stone was being lowered to its place we felt that something of eternal consequence to our beloved Church was being ultimated.” Pendleton wishes Morse could be present for the Council of Clergy meetings which will convene the next day in Bryn Athyn. Names mentioned: Bishop (W. F.) Pendleton, Mr. Gyllenhaal, Miss (Lilian) Beekman
