Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Henry Leonardos, 1929-11-12
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Henry Leonardos in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Upon his return from four months abroad in Europe and South Africa, Pendleton received Leonardos’ letter of August 13th. Of his trip, Pendleton writes, “It was a continual joy to me to find that a number of groups of natives under native leaders had received our doctrines with deep affection and notable intelligence.” During the “native” Assembly held at Alpha Estate, Pendleton ordained four men into the second degree of the priesthood and ten into the first degree; He hopes this will serve to establish a foundation for the New Church in South Africa. Pendleton congratulates Rev. Lima on the birth of his son and also Leonardos’ daughter, Alice, on the birth of her child, Dicea. Pendleton writes that he is delighted with the book which Alice sent him, and he looks forward to her second book. He trusts the book’s presentation of New Church doctrines will be well received by those in Brazil. Pendleton also sends his best wishes to Leonardos’ son, Georges, on his engagement to Miss Barreto. Names mentioned: Rev. Joao de Mendonca Lima, Alice (Mrs. Antoni Caetano da Silva Lima), Dicea (de Silva Lima), Georges (Leonardos), Miss (Elizabeth Thereza Cavaleanti) Barreto, Mrs. (Marietta) Leonardos, Mrs. (Beatrice Walton Childs) Pendleton
