Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. David Harold Klein, 1917-06-29
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. David Harold Klein in Chicago, IL, USA. Pendleton has received Klein’s most recent letter and report. Pendleton is busy preparing for a short vacation, but he would like to answer Klein’s question about his standing as a member of the General Church Council of the Clergy. Pendleton writes: “Suppose the case of a minister who, by virtue of entering into another occupation, entirely removes himself from the sphere and interests of priestly work. Such a one, should, I think, withdraw from membership, inasmuch as no good use is served by a continuance of a relation which is practically dead. But on the other hand, the mere fact of having to engage in some other pursuit, when the will and wish for ministerial service remains, is not sufficient cause for withdrawal.” Pendleton believes Klein falls into the latter category, especially as he has been assisting Mr. Smith in ministerial work. Named mentioned: Mr. (Gilbert) Smith
