Letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Eldred Edward Iungerich, 1930-04-14
Scope and Contents
Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Eldred Edward Iungerich in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Pendleton reports that Iungerich’s impressions of Mr. Pfeiffer and the recent doctrinal developments at the Hague were presented to the Consistory. The Consistory members are skeptical of Pfeiffer’s “new doctrine,” and some even feel that his ideas are tantamount to heresy. Bishop Tilson believes they should come down on Pfeiffer’s ideas in the “good old Academy style,” but Pendleton believes they should not “go off half-cocked and before we really understand him.” Iungerich has received Pfeiffer’s editorial on Arcana Coelestia. Pendleton has received another of Pfeiffer’s editorials in addition to a copy of “From the Transactions of the Swedenborg Gezelschap,” the latter of which Pendleton feels especially contains statements which challenge General Church interests. Pendleton ends the letter by noting that they are having a difficult time finding a date for the dedication of the new Assembly Hall in Bryn Athyn. Names mentioned: Mr. (Ernst) Pfeiffer, Bishop (Robert J.) Tilson
