Scope and Contents

Typed letter from N.D. Pendleton to Rev. Fernand Hussenet in Paris, France. General Church of the New Jerusalem letterhead. French copy attached. Pendleton is glad that Hussenet appreciates the financial gift from the General Church, though Pendleton regrets that they could not be more generous as the Church is under increased financial strain as a result of the War. With practically all the active young men in Bryn Athyn leaving to join the war effort in France, Pendleton hopes that the Church will emerge from the War stronger in spirit, if not in body. He writes, “His (the Lord’s) Providence is guarding the issues of the great world struggle and no loss that we can suffer will be too great a sacrifice, if only the world ideals for which we stand can be realized.” Pendleton believes Americas are also eager to join the war because of the opportunity it provides to repay the American debt to France. Hussenet’s address has been given to the New Church soldiers who have gone to France so that they may call on Hussenet when they reach Paris. Hussenet’s report on the 19th of June celebrations in Paris has been given to Mr. (Carl) Odhner for publication in the Life. Pendleton asks Hussenet to welcome M. Pierre Vanderzvalman, Mlle. Gilberte Vanderzvalman, and Mlle. Marcelle Vanderzvalman as official members of the General Church.
